What you will see

Offerings:

The first offering at the beginning of Liturgy is for the lighting of the candles. You may also choose to make your donation and light a candle (to the left of the sanctuary) on your own prior to the service.

The second offering after the sermon is the regular weekly donation. As a guest, you are not obligated to make any monetary donation to attend our services. If, however, you wish to do so, coins or bills can be placed directly in the basket. If you wish to receive a tax receipt at the end of the year, we ask that you complete and use the offertory envelopes available at the desk in the foyer.

Children of Mary, Altar Boys, and Lectors

These groups participate in various ways during our service. The Children of Mary is open to girls aged 7 - 18. There are regular activities planned outside of church hours with opportunities to have fun and make new friends while learning more about their faith.

The Altar Boys is open to boys aged 7 - 18 and trains them to serve and assist the priest at the altar. There are also social activities planned for them throughout the year - often together with the Children of Mary.

The Lectors are parishioners who have been specially trained to assist our Priest during the service.

Parishioners, their children, and grandchildren are invited to become involved in any of our groups. Contact the Parish Priest or any council member for more information.

Epistle Reading

This is a reading done prior to the Gospel by a member of the congregation. We encourage anyone wishing to participate in this activity to sign their name on the roster that is located behind the desk in the foyer.

Other Special Activities

Depending on requests by the Parishioners or the Church season, there may be short memorial services, baptisms, commemorations, or blessings that will be done at the end of the formal service.

What you will hear

Singing

We encourage the whole congregation to actively sing the Liturgy along with the Cantor and/or choir. Hymnbooks are available to allow you to join in the Opening, Communion and Closing songs. The piano may be used to accompany singing during the English service.

At the end of the service, we will often acknowledge those individuals celebrating Birthdays or Anniversaries with the singing of "Mnohaya Lita" or "Many Years."

Prayers

Our Liturgy provides for an opportunity to have individuals named for special petitions during the service. If you know someone who is ill, having surgery, or in need of prayer, or wish to remember someone who has passed away, please write their name on the pink or yellow pads on the desk in the foyer. Father will then name these individuals during and at the end of Liturgy.

The Lord's Prayer will be sung/chanted in both English and Ukrainian during both services.

What you are invited to do

  • Use a Liturgy missal we have abilable for visitors at the front desk to follow the liturgy. If you wish to purchase one, ask someone in the Parish office for assistance.
  • If you have small children, the Sunday School program is available without charge for your children.
  • Take a church bulletin, newsletter, or monthly calendar so you would be aware of the various upcoming activities at the Parish.
  • Join us for coffee after church in our hall area. Occasionally, we have a special event in the church and may have a breakfast or dinner meal provided. Tickets may be required, and are usually available on the day of the event at a nominal fee.
